Help Save Our Little Blues. Put a Lid on It.

It's been a rough week for this penguin pair rescued from an in-ground ornamental garden bathtub. After toppling in, and with just a small amount of rain water in the bottom, they couldn't get out. As a result of their frantic efforts to extricate themselves the female wore a nail on each foot down to the quick which caused a lot of bleeding. The male had a nail completely ripped off. Imagine the pain! They are now with our rehab vet, exhausted but in good care and with blue bandages on their feet. Nice colour co-ordination!

We've called this pair Bubbles and Soap and wish them a speedy recovery.

This is a reminder to make sure that if you have any holes/pits/sumps on your property of any description, make sure they are covered so animals can't fall in. Put a lid on it! Or if it's a water feature/pool, always have it filled to the brim so wildlife and pets can get out if they fall in.
