A Morning with Motorhomers
It was a privilege to be invited to talk about little penguins at a recent Nelson Tasman Motorhome Assoc rally at magical Marahau.
We had a great turnout of motorhomers, enjoying the sunshine after the first night of rain, keen to learn about little blues, their habitat, challenges and successes. Of course motorhomers love spending time outdoors, getting together and looking after the environment. Their observations while out and about are invaluable in helping to keep our wildlife habitats safer.
It was a lot of fun and absolute pleasure to chat with them, loved the positive feedback.
Safe travels everyone and thank you for the opportunity!
Update: 23 April 2024
Subsequent to their rally at Marahau, the Nelson Tasman motorhomers met up at New Year to see in 2024. At that event they raised funds for the Tasman Bay Blue Penguin Trust. Those funds bought another burrow scope for our field kit. We use scopes to gently peek into natural burrows to ascertain occupation i.e. number of adults, eggs, chicks etc. and record the data. This helps us monitor the breeding success (or otherwise) of local penguins in burrows.
Thank you so much to the motorhomers, amazing fundraising. We love your support and interest in the little blues.
