RIP Little Blue

RIP little blue. A perfectly healthy female little penguin/korora killed recently (late June ‘21) by a "smaller dog" at Tapu Bay.

Dog attack confirmed by DOC-permitted rehabber who conducted the post mortem and described traumatic injury causing internal haemorrhaging, tissue damage and bleeding into the lungs. DOC is aware of dog attacks in this area for a number of years and concerned that they continue. This is on top of 2 dog attacks at Little Kaiteriteri in January that were also confirmed by the vet.

Dog owners, please, please keep your dogs under control when in penguin habitat areas. There are signs. A penguin has NO chance. This is such a preventable tragedy.
