Penguin Palaces

Providing nest boxes helps keep our little blues safer from predators and environmental hazards. In 2019 keen volunteers set to and built 30 nesting boxes, all according to the recommended DOC specifications. Materials were generously donated by the Kaitieriteri Recreation Reserve.

The little houses are now tucked along the coastline between Tapu Bay and Split Apple. Some are being used during nesting and moulting phases, some are still to be “adopted” by little blues. We will wait another season, review the locations and move some to other spots.
