Peeking at Little Blues

A huge THANK YOU to NBS Motueka for sponsoring five sparkling new trail cameras! These are super helpful for our regular burrow and nest box monitoring to ensure the little blue occupants are safe and sound.

During the breeding season, our trail cameras take regular 10 second videos of the adults coming and going as they swap places to incubate eggs and feed their chicks.

Sometimes the cameras pick up the presence of predators such as rats and mustelids which we can address by positioning a trap nearby.

The new cameras will be named after NBS so check the data strip on the images or videos that we post on our Facebook page in the coming weeks and months and you’ll see what these new cameras are looking at.

They are usually positioned at fairly remote locations that are more time-consuming to monitor on foot and we leave them there for a week or so. Every time we change out the data card the images are reviewed and notes recorded.

And also we get to enjoy the antics of the penguins which make for entertaining posts!

Thank you again to NBS Motueka, your ongoing support is hugely appreciated.
