Penguins Live Here

Raising awareness of little blue penguins/korora plays a vital role in improving their environment and survival. They spend most of their time at sea foraging for food and come ashore only for essential phases of their calendar year; during the breeding season (approx Aug/Jan) and moulting time (approx Dec/Mar). These times can vary depending on environmental conditions.

When little blue penguins/korora come ashore they are extremely vulnerable to predation by dogs, cats, stoats, ferrets etc. By making locals and visitors more aware of our little blues and the risky business it is for them to spend time ashore, the better we can provide a safer environment.

Signage plays an important part is making beach goers aware that little blues are in the area.
