Sneaking Up on Predators!
A huge thanks to the DOC Predator Free 2050 Programme for sponsoring some additional kit for our predator trapping arsenal. Trail cameras are a massive help in detecting rats, mustelids, feral cats and other nasties that prey on our native species, particularly when deployed around sensitive nesting areas. The sponsored cameras, consumables and drills will be enormously helpful to our trapping programme.
The success of our trap lines along the coastline between Tapu Bay and Ngaio Bay, relies on good intelligence and detection skills. And of course, our amazing team of trappers who head out fortnightly to clear and rebait the traps. Their diligence, persistence and sheer tenacity over the last 5 years is why we’re hearing more birdsong these days. Thanks team!!
