Give-a-Trap

What an amazing programme this is!

Recently our Trust signed up to be recipients of predator traps donated by people interested in penguin conservation.  Trapping for rats, mice and stoats is beneficial for all birdlife, including little penguins.

Since signing up to Give-a-Trap, we have been the fortunate recipients of multiple possum and rat traps. These will be added into our trap lines which are regularly cleared by our trusty team of amazing volunteers.

Give-a-Trap is a new initiative by Forest and Bird and a very practical way of getting predator traps to community trapping groups on the ground.

A huge thank you to Forest & Bird and our generous donors.

We love reading the messages that come with the donations:

“Get the little b……..ds!”; “All the Happy Penguins wish Henry a Happy Birthday”; “Keep up the good work”; “I hope the wildlife flourishes”; “Thank you for your mahi”; ”Thanks for your dedication to a great cause. Go hard.”; “Just heard about this from across the ditch and very happy to help”

Thanks heaps everyone!

If you would like to donate a trap for our predator programme, go to https://giveatrap.org.nz/giveatrap . Thank you!

The official DOC threat classification of little penguins/korora is “at risk, declining”.

New tools in the arsenal.
